Tiptree event to raise money for the month to raise awareness about breast cancer

A good-hearted business owner raises money for a breast cancer charity in memory of her late sister.

Suzanne Coles is holding a fundraiser at her boutique in Tom’s Farm Shop in Tiptree this Saturday.

The 58-year-old runs Mercedes and Melissa Madeleine & Co in the farm shop Maldon Road with her daughters.

Your store will host a special charity event on Saturday, October 16, starting at 10am, which will receive 10 percent off all clothing except sale items and a fundraising raffle for Breast Cancer Now.

The research and care charity is very close to the family’s heart as Suzanne’s sister Madeleine was diagnosed with breast cancer and sadly died at the age of only 36.

Madeleine originally had breast cancer but it was the secondary cancer that was incurable and she died in September 2002.

An estimated 35,000 people in the UK are living with incurable secondary breast cancer.

Approximately 11,500 women die each year, nearly 1,000 deaths per month, from breast cancer, and the majority are from secondary breast cancer.

Breast cancer can affect men as well and is the fourth leading cause of cancer death nationwide.

It is one of the leading causes of death among women under 50 in the UK.

Suzanne now has a granddaughter who is 4 weeks old and named Madeleine in memory of her sister.

Baby Madeleine’s birth weight was the same as Suzanne’s sister at 7 pounds 12 ounces.

Raffle tickets for the charity event are now on sale in the boutique and cost £ 5 per strip of five tickets or £ 1.50 each.

Suzanne said, “We have some great prices from local businesses, especially the small businesses at Toms Farm Shop.”

The raffle prizes include £ 20 and £ 10 vouchers for Forget Me Not Tearooms, a voucher for a self-delivered afternoon tea from Tiptree Patisserie, a pampering box from Letterbox Wishes, a wash and blow-dry at Hair By Mercedes, flowers from Flowers with Love , pink garments from Madeleine & Co and much more.

The raffle will take place live on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the prizes can be picked up in the boutique until 5 p.m. or on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Mercedes also runs Hair by Mercedes on the Tiptree site, so is in the boutique Tuesday through Saturday, and Suzanne covers Thursdays and Sundays.
