Poppy Day in the Apollo area takes place on Friday

American Legion’s Poppy Day in Kiski Township takes place on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Apollo and North Apollo.

Locations include Naser Foods in West Apollo, Elderton Bank, and Held’s Shop and Save, both in North Apollo; and Fox’s Pizza Den and BZ Mart, both in Apollo Plaza. All proceeds will be donated to Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Butler, Oakland and Pittsburgh. Help support the veterans.

Old and used American flags are collected on Poppy Day and disposed of at a ceremony on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the pavilion of Spring Church Lutheran Church, Route 56, Kiski Township.

Leechburg Museum sells memorial stones

The Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society plans to build a sidewalk by the museum in honor of the museum’s longtime president and volunteer assistant to the late Nancy Crawford Nawrocki.

Bricks sell for $ 50 and contain three lines of 15 characters each that can be personalized with the names of loved ones.

Firefly program planned at the Outdoor Discovery Center

The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, Bethel, will host a firefly program for children at the primary school in the center, Kerr Road, on Crooked Creek Dam Road, June 18-19, 7:00 pm-9:00pm.

The Outdoor Discovery Center in Crooked Creek is a multi-purpose facility operated under the auspices of the Armstrong Center for Community Learning and available year-round to organized groups and businesses for environmental education, workshops, meetings, or retreats.



Today: The free program “Caves of Western Pennsylvania” with speaker Tom Metzgar will take place at 6:30 pm in Drake’s Log Cabin, Williams Alley. Funded by the Apollo Area Historical Society.

Wednesday: State Representative Jason Silvis will host a Veterans Affairs event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at his office, 112 North Plaza. 14th June: The First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg is organizing a 13-week GriefShare self-help group in the church district, Mainstr. 358. The group is aimed at anyone who has lost an important person in their life and may need help dealing with the grief and hardship that loss may have caused.
