WAPPINGERS FALLS – Sparrow’s Nest, a Hudson Valley charity that prepares and delivers homemade meals to families facing cancer diagnoses, received a donation of $ 10,000 from the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

Founded in 2012, Sparrow’s Nest serves families in Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Ulster and North Westchester counties. To date, he has helped over 500 families in the region.

The donation, which comes directly from union members in the Mid-Hudson area, helps Sparrow’s Nest help families supported by the program for a week, as it typically costs the charity $ 10,000 per week to operate. and provide home cooked meals.

“This donation will feed four families for an entire year while they undergo treatment,” said Krista Jones, CEO of Sparrow’s Nest. “That means two meals a week, extra food, holiday meals and food gift cards to help ease the financial and mental strain on a family diagnosed with cancer. “

“When it comes to giving back to our community, NYSCOPBA members always go above and beyond,” said Senator Sue Serino (R, Hyde Park), herself a cancer survivor.
