TEMECULA, Calif. — Charity for Charity, a Temecula-based wish-granting organization, is expanding its Stars of the Valley event in 2022 with a golf tournament. All will be held at the Pechanga Resort and Casino from this Friday, according to the organizers. Stars of the Valley founder Charity Prestifilippo hopes the tournament will become an annual part of her gala.

Prestifilippo and the staff have been preparing for a year, delaying their 15th event due to the pandemic. In the fall of 2021, a pre-gala fundraiser with dueling pianos held at Monteleone Meadows in Murrieta got the ball rolling to revive the event.

Families in need need support more than ever, according to the organization.

Stars of the Valley kicked off in wine country with a red carpet and awards festivities to raise funds and cover up to three recipients a year with make-a-wish-style gifts. Each beneficiary is a person or family going through a difficult road after experiencing life changes due to illness or disability.

In 2022, Stars of the Valley recipients are Romello Ray, Rachel Skinner and Todd Hilton.

Ray was only 16 when he was hit by a car. Now 17, he is non-verbal and confined to his wheelchair.

Skinner was diagnosed with 2B osteosarcoma. In 2020, the cancer spread, resulting in a complete leg amputation. Now she is battling stage 4 metastatic osteosarcoma.

Hilton, a former Temecula-area teacher, suffered a stroke in class. He is in a wheelchair and working to recover.

Starting Friday, Charity for Charity’s team of dedicated volunteers, along with former grantees and their families, will provide each of these grantees with their heart’s desires and plenty of support throughout the golf and gala.

During the weekend event, giveaways and auction items will raise additional funds for the program that has operated in the area for 15 years.

Friday Golf Tournament, Saturday Gala

The Stars of the Valley Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

Each hole sponsored by an area business or foundation, and food will be served, from Great Harvest to Starbucks, Grazing Theory to In and Out Burger, Mexico Cafe, Bottega Italia, Nothing Bundt Cakes and more as the golfers. Former beneficiaries will be chauffeured around in golf carts, and current beneficiaries will also be there for the day, they say. All golf prizes will be awarded on Saturday at the gala.

With the pandemic, the gala itself will see some changes, with shuffles and shufflings, but gala-goers can expect the same attention to detail they’ve grown accustomed to. Ultimately, it’s about the recipients, who will be blessed with their heart’s wishes through Prestifilippo’s dedicated efforts.

“Charity for Charity recipients are some of the most amazing people you will ever meet,” she wrote on the organization’s website.

Each beneficiary is struggling with a life-threatening illness or traumatic injury.

“What we’ve found is that these individuals are the most positive, humble, and determined humans you’ll ever meet,” she says. “Whether surrounded by family, friends or none, these special people come to us with a smile, even in the midst of a few tears. They all share the positive attitude that they will know overcome and fight the good fight.”
