School boy making a cut up for charity

An Abergavenny schoolboy who grew his hair long during lockdown has raised over £ 1,000 for charity after cutting his hair short.

10-year-old Oscar Pearson – who attends Ysgol Gymraeg Y Fenni – decided to have his hair cut short after learning about The Little Princes Trust, a charity that helps children and teenagers who have lost their own hair Free human hair wigs available provides cancer treatment or other medical conditions.

Oscar also decided to raise money for charity by having a sponsored haircut done with donations to BBC Children in Need.

About the haircut, Oscar’s mother, Michelle Pearson, said, “Oscar’s grandmother lost her hair because of the cancer treatment she received. One day Oscar said to his nan: ‘You can have my hair’.

“As gracious and friendly as his gesture was, we knew it wouldn’t be possible.

“However, we had heard of a charity that makes wigs for children from donated hair.

“ From that moment on, Oscar decided when the time was right to cut his hair, what to do.

After growing his hair long, he let it go on Saturday the 25th.

After the haircut, Michelle said, “My husband Mike and I are so proud of Oscar for his decision to donate his hair to The Little Princess Trust and raise money for BBC children in need.

“Oscar has always been such a kind and generous boy, and he was amazed at the amount of money he could raise for charity.”

Oscar has received many messages of support for his fundraiser, including Debbie and the Barber Shop team for donating money and thanking him for “being such a loyal customer and for choosing such a worthy charity.”

Michelle added, “Oscar would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated, as well as to Debbie and the barber shop team for cutting his hair.

“He’s been so humble and grateful for all the support and kindness everyone has shown and hopes the money raised will make a huge difference to charities.”
