FAIRFIELD, CT – The Beth Davis Rose of Hope tennis tournament and the first annual Rose of Hope men’s tennis tournament held on the 15th. Over 90 participants participated in the men’s and women’s tournaments.
The women’s tournament is the main fundraiser for the Beth Davis Fund for Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. The fund helps women with metastases gain access to treatment, mental health services and other therapies. Andy Gleeman directed the tournament.
This was the first year for the men’s tournament benefiting the breast centre’s patients and programs. “While breast cancer is more common in women, breast cancer can also be diagnosed in men, and this new tournament will raise awareness,” said Mollie Milano, director of community outreach at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. “I am so happy with the success of both tournaments and thank our sponsors. The players had fun supporting a good cause and the money raised goes directly to our patients and programs. I’m looking forward to the tournaments next year. ”
The women’s tournament’s main sponsor, People’s United Bank, has donated over $ 125,000 to the Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s education and outreach programs since 2012.
“We are very grateful to People’s United for their years of support,” said Donna Twist, Ph.D., General Manager of the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. “Thanks to them, we’ve expanded our outreach programs, increased the number of women getting their annual mammograms, and certainly saved lives.”
Courtney Yanni and Meghan DeMaria from Moss Design also sponsored the women’s tournament. Sponsors of the men’s tournament include Gina Douvas and Lisa Cerbone-Montalto of the Fairfield and Ridgefield offices of Merrill Lynch; Cindy Raney and Jason Mudd from Cindy Raney & Co .; and Bill Leavey of William Leavey Architecture.
The women’s tournament was co-chaired by Kelli Montanaro and Kathy Marsden. Kathy Marsden directed the men’s tournament. Players came from Westport, Fairfield, Easton, Trumbull, Wilton, Stratford and Weston.
