The new Storm Lake Tutoring and Education Program is hosting a live telethon in an effort to find volunteers.

Tutoring The city’s Tutorthon event will be produced and broadcast by Buena Vista University Digital Media students on campus television station BVTV. The event will air on local cable access channel 3 on Mediacom and Long Lines on Sunday, April 24 at 7 p.m. The telethon will also be streamed on the Tutoring The Town Facebook page.

“It’s an honor for us to give back to the community by being able to support the program through broadcast,” said BVTV Advisor Jerry Johnson.

Tutorthon’s goal is to increase the volunteer hours of former educators and other volunteers in the Storm Lake community. Just like a normal telethon, people can call in and donate hours of their time to help tutor students. The number to call will be provided as soon as Tutorthon goes live.

The show will feature appearances and interviews from those integral to the creation and coordination of Tutoring The Town, including the program’s senior coordinator, Nancy Jensen. There will also be live and pre-recorded messages from several community members, including Mayor Mike Porsch and BVU President Brian Lenzmeier.

Tutoring The Town is coordinated by the Storm Lake United Methodist Church.
