NEW DELHI: To mark 75 years of independence, New Delhi City Council (NDMC) has decided to install the Tiranga on streetlights at selected locations such as Connaught Place, Shanti Path, Khan Market, Sardar Patel Marg, Safdarjung Flyover and Ranjit Singh Flyover from August 13-15.
As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, the civic body decided to display short clips/videos of the national flag provided by the Ministry of Tourism on LED screens installed at prominent locations, organize events with residents and market associations; and to hold patriotic events programs in Central Park, including an evening musical song program on August 12.
“Although some of the activities have already started in schools and residential areas, a detailed proposal will be presented at the council meeting on Wednesday,” said NDMC member Kuljeet Khatri.
“The flag will also be displayed in all NDMC buildings and roundabouts between August 13-15, and it is already on all NDMC websites/social media pages from July 21,” Chahal said. . Various activities like quizzes, debates, painting competitions will be organized in schools to share interesting facts about the flag. An outreach program will also take place on August 6 and 7 in Central Park.
“Organizing such events will be the best way to reach more and more people and integrate them into Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav,” Chahal said.
On Tuesday, a lecture was held at the NDMC Convention Center where Major General Ashim Kohli (Retired), Head of the Flag of India Foundation, spoke on important aspects of the flag code, its history and the procedure to be followed when displaying and managing the national flag. A similar program will take place on Wednesday for NDMC officials.
