Mitchell Institute appoints Jared J. Cash as President and CEO

PORTLAND – The Mitchell Institute, a Maine nonprofit founded by Senator George J. Mitchell with the aim of improving college outcomes for Maine students, has appointed Jared J. Cash as its new President, effective Jan. 1 and appointed chief executive officer of the organization. 2022.

Cash replaces Meg Baxter, who announced plans to retire earlier this year. Baxter led the Mitchell Institute for 10 years, crowning an outstanding career in the community service.

Cash, who serves as vice chairman of the school committee of SAD 17, brings almost 20 years of experience from various positions supporting education and student advancement. He is currently Vice President of Enrollment and Marketing at the University of Southern Maine.

Mitchell, founder and honorary chairman of the institute’s board of directors. “His deep commitment to Maine and its students, his extensive knowledge of the educational landscape, and his strong belief in our mission make him the right person to continue the organization’s success in helping scientists and improving communities.”

Prior to USM, Cash was Vice President at the University of Maine at Farmington. He previously held positions as Scholarship Director at the Mitchell Institute and in the Admissions Department at Bates College. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bates College and a master’s in education from Northeastern University. He lives in his hometown of Norway with his wife Mallory Brooke and children Carlee-Mae and Alyson.

Cash’s appointment follows an extensive national search process that began earlier this year and was led by Greenwich Harbor Partners.
