Teams from across the marketing industry came together to complete a combined 42.2km sprint for charity this week, raising over £52,000 to fund both future marketing talent and research vital to cancer.

Some 39 brands, agencies, media owners and marketing firms took part in the two-hour event on Tuesday June 7, with each team of four completing a 400m relay (100m per person) back to back to the distance of a marathon was covered collectively. Brands involved included Britvic, Just Eat, Camelot, Channel 4, TUI, Direct Line Group, ITV and Google.

The global ‘Sprintathon’ lasted two hours, two minutes and two seconds. The fastest lap was run by consultancy firm KPMG at 55 seconds.

This year’s Sprintathon was the second organized by The Marketing Society. The money raised will be split equally between the network of marketers, where it will help support emerging marketing talent, and Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

The event has been organized by Cancer Research UK and Direct Line Group since 2016. Previous years have collectively raised £600,000 for charity.

Mark Evans, Sprintathon Founder and Managing Director of Marketing and Digital at Direct Line Group, said: “It was fantastic to see such a wide range of brands and agencies coming together to beat cancer faster.

“Particularly to see recent cancer survivor Umaima [Walia, The Marketing Society] the execution of the anchor bracket. In a wobbly world, these are special moments that are good for the soul and a privilege to be a part of.
