On Sunday, October 9, 2022, Abby Traxler of Lewistown was crowned Miss Pennsylvania Volunteer 2023 at Centennial Hall in Haverford, PA. Traxler is a senior at Lycoming College majoring in business administration. She is a student on the dean’s list, president of the class of 2023, tourist guide, financial tutor, singer and speaker.

Abby uses her voice and her life experiences to help others. Her new title allows her to reach out to the community and work to prevent bullying among children through her platform, Project ABBY: Anti-Bullying Begins with You.

During the state competition, the delegates participated in a personal interview, a swimsuit, a talent, an evening dress and a question on stage. In addition to a $3,000 scholarship, Abby received a four-year in-kind scholarship to DeSales University and an additional $250 as the recipient of the Stephen Yearick Memorial Overall Evening Gown Award.

Abby will represent Pennsylvania in the national Miss Volunteer America pageant in June 2023 in Jackson, Tennessee. The Miss Volunteer America organization is a service-oriented national scholarship program based in Tennessee that seeks to empower young women through extraordinary scholarships and opportunities. The five points of the crown represent the principles of the organization’s mission, SERVE: scholarship, education, accountability, volunteerism and empowerment.
