It was wonderful to see the Community Action Program volunteer driver program highlighted on the front page of Monitor for the important service it provides to seniors and people with disabilities who need transportation to get to appointments. The Friends in Concord program also provides volunteer driver service in the Concord area through its Caregiver program. Volunteer drivers provide transportation to medical appointments for eligible seniors over the age of 60.

Like the CAP program, rides and other services provided by volunteer caregivers help seniors stay in their homes. I know how great these volunteer driver programs are because I am a volunteer driver for the Friends program. I appreciate the flexibility I have to choose from the necessary rides that fit my schedule. This is done through a convenient online planner. Program staff are helpful and supportive of volunteers. More importantly, I receive more than I give. The people I offer rides to genuinely appreciate this service and I know I am making a difference in their lives. Anyone who has a few hours to devote to these valuable hiking programs should consider it a worthwhile volunteer activity. The program is growing with new people needing rides and drivers are still needed.
