A Ghaziabad couple extorted millions of rupees from hundreds of businesspeople and high-ranking professionals using their intimate photos and videos of sex chats, police said.
Identified as Yogesh and Sapna Gautam, the couple extorted money from wealthy people from across the country for over a year and later even had nearly 30 wives to help them with the alleged crime.
ThePrint reported that the couple had extorted over Rs 20 crore of money from the 300 people. She and three other people were arrested on Friday from their home in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar outbuilding.
“Sapna and her husband had split roles. She (Sapna) would join the website with new IDs and chat with the victims. She also trained other women for the job. Yogesh took care of the locations (the places where the victims were called), phone numbers and bank accounts, ”a senior Ghaziabad police officer is quoted as saying in the report.
“On the website (strip chat) you have to pay 234 rupees per minute. Half of the money is taken in by the website and the rest went to the couple to do their services like sex chat, “the official said.
The policeman said the couple will allegedly convince users to part ways with their personal information, such as phone numbers, and later video calls were made to them via WhatsApp asking them to “undress, masturbate and engage in other sexual activities.” The defendants then blackmailed them with the recorded videos in order to extort money. “
The couple’s suspicious activity came under the radar when Rajkot police contacted them in early October after an accounting firm owner alleged that one of his employees made a transaction of Rs 80 lakh from the company’s account to a bank account in Ghazibad.
