LUBBOCK, Texas – An integral part of the number one in the single and double slot will continue to be part of the Red Raider men’s tennis program as head coach Daniel Whitehead announced that Parker Wynn will join its employees as a volunteer coach after graduating in business administration in May 2021.
“The ability to have Parker on our program is extremely beneficial to our team,” said Whitehead. “He’s had tremendous success at the highest level and his tennis IQ is second to none. He will be a real asset to our younger players as they adapt to the competition at this level. It is so valuable to our team to see former students. Athletes like Parker around our program and contribute to their development. “
After joining Tech in 2018, Wynn made an immediate impact in his first season as Red Raider, scooping 16 singles wins and 15 one-two victories. Wynn was named to the All-Big-12 second team for singles and earned All-Big-12 first-team honors in doubles. In the shortened 2020 season, parker secured five victories over ranking opponents and even reached 48 in the ITA national ranking. Parker was also honored as an ITA Scholar Athlete. In his senior year as co-team captain, Wynn was ranked 37th on the national ITA rankings.
“Lubbock and the Texas Tech tennis program are my second home.” Wynn explained. “When Danny told me there was a chance to become a volunteer coach, my decision was immediately made. There is a fantastic group of people in this locker that I still have close relationships with. Keeping a role in this environment is very exciting. I believe the future of this program is bright. When I hit campus as a player, my main goal was to leave the program in a better place than I found it, but we have more work to do. “
Wynn officially joined the program in September 2021 while currently serving as Senior Ambassador for the Promotions & Fan Engagement Department in Athletics. In January 2022 he will start his Masters in Sports Management at Tech.
