The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce and GrowNYC are collaborating to launch the 2022 Flushing Greenmarket season at a new location in front of Bowne Playground and PS 20 on Sanford Avenue between Union Street and Bowne Street starting July 27.
Managed by GrowNYC, the Flushing Greenmarket will be open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from July 27 to November 23.
The Flushing Chamber partners with GrowNYC to promote the Greenmarket and coordinates programming with local businesses, cultural groups and civic associations.
GrowthNYC‘s Greenmarket strives to preserve local farmland while ensuring New Yorkers have access to fresh, healthy food grown in our region.
GrowNYC guarantees product integrity: everything sold in its green markets is 100% locally grown, produced, fished or fished. Anyone interested in selling their products at the Flushing Greenmarket can get more information and apply at growyc.org.
The Flush Chamber will host green market programs, promoting environmental education as well as activities that support community health and well-being. Chamber Advisory Board Chair Alice Lee will coordinate monthly programming with local artists to showcase their talents and encourage more people to visit the market.
“As we fight the pandemic and get back on our feet, we are pleased to present another year of healthy food options and cultural programs at Flushing Greenmarket,” said Lee. “We will showcase the work of local artists each month to showcase their innovative work and encourage more people to visit our business community.”
The Flushing Greenmarket was originally launched at Maple Playground in the summer of 2016 to improve the quality of life in the community by expanding access to nutritious, locally grown foods and to support programs that enable all New Yorkers to ensure a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
Maple Playground is currently under renovation and will not be available this year.
Participating farmers include R & G Produce Vegetables of Goshen, New York. Farmers accept cash, debit and credit cards, SNAP/EBT food stamps, WIC and Senior FMNP coupons as well as Health Bucks. (Participants are eligible to receive $2 in Health Bucks for every $2 spent in SNAP, up to $10 per day, to buy extra fruits and vegetables).
