The Lewis Foundation – which provides free gift bags to adult cancer patients at 15 hospitals in the Midlands – will be supported by the renowned NHS GP, TV doctor and radio presenter who will use his public profile and social media to help raise public awareness of the charity.
Dr Nighat – who lives in Buckinghamshire – is a women’s health and family planning specialist with over 15 years’ experience in the NHS and in private practice.
She is also a resident doctor on BBC Breakfast and ITV’s This Morning, host of Sunday Breakfast on BBC3 Counties Radio, and has contributed to a Channel 4 documentary and numerous podcasts.
Dr Nighat said: “I have followed the work of the Lewis Foundation over the past year and been blown away by the impact it is having in supporting adult cancer patients.
“I had had my own time in hospital with my son and I have patients I refer to hospital for care who say it can be an incredibly lonely and isolating time.
“The Lewis Foundation’s free gift bags are needed more than ever to bring comfort to those undergoing cancer treatment, and I’m extremely proud to be an ambassador for such a worthy charity.”
As a speaker and medical educator at national and international conferences, Dr. Nighat has also been nominated for the National Bevan Award for Health and Wellness in recognition of her tireless commitment to advancing wellness in her community, and received an honorary doctorate of science in London. City University for Women’s Health, Public Health and Inclusion.
