These puppies are more than cute, they are mini-detectives who will be trained to detect serious illnesses.

The three girls and three boys, born at Christmas, are the first to be specially raised by the Medical Detection Dogs association.

Soon they will be expertly trained to spot the subtle scent of diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease and malaria.

Little Labradors will also learn to work with people with Type 1 Diabetes, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome and severe allergies, alerting them when a medical emergency is about to occur.

MDD has trained dogs to detect the smell of Covid and they are now checking people.

Puppy Supply and Training Manager Chris Allen says: “Puppy supply has been difficult during the pandemic.

“Starting our own breeding program will allow us to complete our dog supply routes. The puppies are already absolutely gorgeous and real characters.

Chris adds: “We have a confident, a sensible and a cheeky one – like with all the siblings.”

alf

Always first to the milk bar and food bowl, Alf is a smart boy and picked up the basics of potty training easily. He is a sociable and cheerful chappy.

coconut

She resembles her mother in looks and expressions. Coco is so eager to investigate new things – she loves to play tuggy, has endless energy and is very vocal.

Pretty puppy with very expressive dog eyes, sometimes dangling, she likes to nap, especially in mom’s bed. Calm but cheeky, she is the thinker of the group.

Imperial

Impy is the smallest of the tribe, with a fluffier coat. But he’s not a shy “mother’s boy” since he defends himself now. He has heaps of spirit and enthusiasm.

He loves violence and somersaults with his equally stocky brother Alf. Max is still in the thick of the action, then falls into a deep sleep on his back, snoring.
