A benefit concert in Thanet raised over £1,000 for cancer charities.

On March 6, hundreds of music fans gathered for RockthePav, at the Pavilion in Broadstairs, as bands played throughout the afternoon.

Performers were greeted with enthusiastic applause and cheers as the free mini festival returned after a two-year layoff due to pandemic restrictions.

Organizers said: “We offer a thousand thanks to our generous supporters who raised just over £1,000 in one afternoon.

“It was great to be back. The reception has been great and the support we have received has been fantastic. It was one of the first major music events since restrictions were officially lifted a few weeks ago and people came to see great live music and have fun.

Lineup included The Blues Summit; Jeff, Mike and friends; Free meal; The Altons; and Lodestone.

This was RockthePav’s fourth fundraiser since 2018, which has now exceeded £9,000 in total for good causes.

The organizers said:

“It was a win-win situation. The afternoon provided a brilliant variety of bands to enjoy and it was great to see so many people listening to live music while supporting worthy causes.

This year the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund was the main charity to benefit with £1,036.59 raised, while an impromptu bucket drive for Pilgrims Hospice raised a further £30.85.

Yasmin Bailey leads Thanet fundraising for PCRF. She says:

“Once again, RockthePav was a huge success. There was such a wide variety of great music and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of people who donated.

“A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this together.”

All musicians, the DB Rising Audio Engineering and Acoustics sound team, and the Pavilion venue performed for free to maximize fundraising, and the event was sponsored by RSK Environmental, Engineering, and Technical Services .

Organizers say they are already considering options and ideas for their next live music fundraiser.
