The Milpitas branch of BAPS Charities hosted a walkathon on April 30 to raise funds and support Susan G. Komen®, the world’s largest nonprofit fundraiser for the fight against breast cancer.

‘In the Joy of Others: Walk-Run 2022’ in Milpitas brought together participants from across the San Francisco Bay Area to support Susan G. Komen® and their efforts to raise awareness and find breast cancer treatments .

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States and worldwide. In all walks of life, women and even men are directly or indirectly affected by this cancer.

According to recent statistics, one in eight women will be diagnosed with the disease in her lifetime, impacting every family in one way or another.

Since its inception, Susan G. Komen® has invested more than $2.9 billion in research, community health awareness, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries.

Pleasanton Mayor Karla Brown at the BAPS Charities Walkathon

Having seen BAPS Charities’ efforts to support Susan G. Komen®, Pleasanton Mayor Karla Brown said, “You are marching for something bigger than yourself; you walk to help others. It is the joy of others, but it is also the life of others. So please walk – let’s raise over $50,000 this year! »

The walk, like all BAPS Charities activities, was driven by the belief that “in the joy of others lies our own”. It was organized to celebrate the most fundamental element of any community – families – and to inspire tens of thousands of people to pursue the spirit of service.

“It’s wonderful to see the love you have for our community. We need such unity to bring people together and it’s wonderful to see you all coming together in this effort to support Susan G. Komen® said Fremont Mayor Lily Mei.

Participants had a great time with family, friends and the community. One attendee said, “We really love the mission this event was supporting and wanted to be part of it. The event went well – I loved the energy here, the turnout, the volunteers, and the support from legislators, sponsors, and the community at large.
